The lobby and loft in Hotel Deventer are decorated with large macramé knotted wall hangings. Macrame is a handicraft technique in which, in this case, specially developed ‘ metallic‘ cords are knotted to create a design. Both the crafts aspect and the modern design are in line with the Deventer ‘Middle Ages’ inspiration, a mix of the Gothic shapes of the churches, the natural shapes of sheaves and beehives, structures of buildings and facades adorned with straw motives and decorative wrought ironwork. Artist Milla Novo used this information as a starting point and designed and knotted these luxury wall hangings especially for this hotel.
